Pool Bonding, Grounding & GFCI in Las Vegas & Henderson
Equipotential bonding and GFCI protection are non-negotiable around pools. Penny Electric installs and repairs bonding grids, metal ties, and GFCI devices when inspectors, insurers, or home sales flag pool electrical safety.
Pool Bonding & GFCI Protection
Pool bonding connects metallic parts — rebar, ladder sockets, handrails, pump motors, and certain deck fittings — so they share the same electrical potential. Grounding ties the system to earth; bonding prevents dangerous voltage differences between objects a swimmer can touch simultaneously. NEC Article 680 defines which components must be bonded and how conductors are routed under deck and coping.
Pool GFCI requirements apply to equipment circuits, underwater lighting, and receptacles within prescribed distances of the water. A missing or failed GFCI is a common failed-inspection item on Las Vegas pool remodels and home resales. We install listed GFCI breakers and disconnects, test under load, and document correction for your inspector or buyer’s agent.
Older pools may have partial bonding — a single #8 wire to the pump but nothing on a new waterfall feature or slide ladder. We extend bonding grids when you add features, and we repair corroded bond lugs that inspectors red-tag. This page focuses on safety infrastructure, not pump performance; operational faults live on pool electrical repair.
Low search volume does not mean low importance: liability from shock near water is catastrophic. Part of our pool and spa electrical services; see pool equipment wiring for new circuits and hot tub wiring for spa-specific bonding at the tub pad.
This work is part of our licensed pool and spa electrical services in Las Vegas and Henderson — new circuits, bonding, GFCI protection, equipment wiring, and repair for existing backyard water features.

Pool Bonding FAQ
Is pool bonding the same as grounding?
Related but different — bonding equalizes potential between metal parts; grounding connects the system to earth. Pools need both done correctly.
Does every pool need an equipotential grid?
NEC requires bonding of specified metal components; many pools use a grid under the deck — we follow local inspector expectations for your project type.
Can I pass inspection without GFCI on pool lights?
No — underwater and equipment circuits require GFCI protection under current code. We upgrade legacy installs where possible.
Who can legally perform pool bonding in Nevada?
Bonding is electrical work — it should be performed by a licensed electrical contractor such as Penny Electric (C-2 #74758).
Bonding only — no new circuits?
Yes — we take bonding-only correction projects when that is the full scope from your inspection report.
